Score: 7.3/10 (Innovation: 7, Technical: 9, Documentation: 8, Utility: 5)

Vela is a Linux desktop environment with its own Wayland compositor, Vulkan renderer, Qt Quick shell, file manager, and settings app, emphasizing modern design, high-refresh motion, fractional scaling, and efficiency. It showcases deep technical work like custom damage tracking, late latching, direct scanout, and frame pacing, but remains beta software with limited hardware validation and a modest user base.

Target audience: Linux desktop users, compositor developers, graphics engineers
