Ulak is a Rust CLI that lets developers run Docker/Compose workloads on a remote server over SSH without a local Docker daemon, synchronizing only files Docker needs and forwarding ports back to localhost. It solves a real problem—remote builds/containers with bind mounts and env files—by parsing the Compose model rather than just shifting the Docker API endpoint. The implementation is non-trivial (SSH multiplexing, bidirectional sync with conflict detection, shim, TUI dashboard) and the docs are thorough.
Target audience: backend devs, devops, developers with resource-constrained laptops
